ABC Casts The First Black Bachelorette...And It's About Time

On Monday nights episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Bachelor host and luckiest man on earth Chris Harrison (what are the odds you get a hosting job on a show like The Bachelor and turn it into a career!?) stopped by to reveal the lucky woman who will be looking for love in trite places on the 13th season of The Bachelorette.

Drum roll please...

It's Rachel Lindsay.

In keeping with a tradition set last season by announcing Nick Viall would be the next Bachelor while he was still competing on Bachelor in Paradise, ABC's announcement of Rachel as the next Bachelorette comes while she is still in the running for Nick's heart.

But spoilers aside, the news marks a new chapter for the Bachelor franchise. Rachel, a 31-year-old attorney from Dallas, Texas, will be the first person of color to be The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.

After 21 season of The Bachelor and 12 seasons of The Bachelorette, it's about time.

You can get to know Rachel on The Bachelor airing Mondays at 8pm on ABC. In the meantime, you can read our recaps here.
