News Bite: Donald Trump's Press Conference Punctuates Bad Week

Donald Trump is not having the best week.

The President held a 77-minute press conference in the East Room of the White House yesterday and spent much of the time defending the first month of his presidency as well as attacking the media for their alleged dishonestly.

Said Trump:

"The press has become so dishonest that if we don’t talk about it, we are doing a tremendous disservice to the American people, a tremendous disservice. We have to talk about it. We have to find out what’s going on because the press, honestly, is out of control. The level of dishonesty is out of control."

Trump's defensive comments sparked backlash on Twitter, including criticism from celebrities and media outlets.

J.K. Rowling made her opinions on Twitter known, as she is known to do, calling the conference "the scariest thing I'd ever watched."

Trump selected retired vice admiral and former Navy SEAL Robert S. Harward to replace Michael Flynn as national security adviser, but Harward denied the position.

Harward said in a statement:

"This job requires 24 hours a day, seven-days-a-week focus and commitment to do it right. I currently could not make that commitment."

Two anonymous senior administration officials confirmed that Harward cited family and financial considerations in his decision to turn down the position.
