Gorillas Have a Lot of Love to Give

Conservationist Damian Aspinall and his daughter Tansy have a joyous they cared for many years ago - Djalta and Bimms.

Djalta and Bimms are two very special gorillas who, after years in captivity, were released back into the wild. Years later, Damian Aspinall set out to find them, along with his daughter Tansy. Once the two were found, they were met with a welcome so joyous and playful, it might make you consider inviting a gorilla or two to your next party.

Their reunion with Tansy is especially sentimental, considering the last time Djalta and Bimms saw her she was just a little girl. Now, more grown up, neither Damien or Tansy were sure she would be remembered let alone greeted with any familiarity. However, judging by how they hugged and embraced her, Djalta and Bimms remembered her quite well.

Watching these two wild animals be gentle and playful towards people shows how we might underestimate creatures we consider less capable of such compassion. In fact, these gorillas are capable of a kind of love and compassion that’s getting harder to find in some people (cough, Donald Trump). We can all learn a thing or two from these gorillas. They are the reason we exist, after all.
