Female inventors, authors and daredevils alike are often forgotten in favor of their male counterparts. But there are so many women who've done crazy and amazing things. They deserving their time in the spotlight. one of those women was Annie Edson Taylor. Taylor was the first person to ride down Niagara Falls in a barrel. Maybe not ride, more like, plummet.

After Taylor lost her husband during the Civil War, she was living in poverty. So at the age of 63, in a grand attempt at fame and fortune, she decided to take on the 167-foot fall.  She alerted the media, got a barrel, collected her lucky pillow, and threw herself off the fall, and survived.

Sadly for Taylor, the media frenzy died down within a few days of the fall and she did not gain the fame and fortune she had expected.

But she did survive the fall, which in itself is more than most of us could do.
