7 Celebrities Who Got Their Start on 'Law & Order'

In the Hollywood star system, the actors fall into two separate yet equally important groups: Those who have guest starred on an iteration of Law & Order and those who have not.

These are (some of) their stories.

Claire Danes has been working on her trademark cry face for a long long time. In the 1992 season three premiere episode of Law & Order "Skin Deep", Danes, then 13, played the daughter of a prostitute, and murder suspect.

2. Philip Seymour Hoffman

Long before winning an Oscar, the late Philip Seymour Hoffman's first screen credit was an 1991 episode of Law & Order called "The Violence of Summer" in which he played a young man accused of committing a gang rape.

3. Abigail Breslin

In 2004, two years before Little Miss Sunshine launched her into stardom, Abigail Breslin played a little girl stuck in a custody battle in a Law & Order: SVU episode called "Birthright".

4. John Krasinski

John Krasinski definitely didn't play the Jim we know and love in his episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. In the 2004 episode, a year before The Office premiered, Krasinski plays a violent high school basketball player.

5. Jennifer Garner

Five years before Alias made her a household name, Jennifer Garner played a grad student trying to get Benjamin Bratt's character Detective Curtis to cheat on his wife. Fair enough, we get it Jen.

6. Bradley Cooper

In a 2005 season six episode of Law & Order: SVU called "Night", Bradley Cooper plays a super slimy defense lawyer who covers up for his guilty client.

7. Sarah Paulson

Emmy winner Sarah Paulson's first ever role was playing the daughter of a murder victim who might be sleeping with her step father on Law & Order in 1995. Heavy.
