Kim Kardashian Gets Her Face "Cupped". So, Uh, What Is That?

During Olympics season last year, everyone was talking about Michael Phelps and the circular bruises all over his back.

No, he wasn't in a fight with some sort of bear. He had a cupping treatment on his back.

Great, we thought. We now know. And then we moved on.

Until we found out Kim Kardashian gets her face cupped.

Waaaaaait. What? She has circular bruises all over her face? No, not exactly.

After Kardashian posted the below image on her Snapchat, we were all intrigued.

what is facial cupping

Thankfully, E! contacted Nurse Jamie herself (she's a Los Angeles-based skin expert) and found out everything the world wanted to know. Including:

What does it do?

It's used for anti-aging, Nurse Jamie says.

"The cupping facial encourages blood flow to the tissue and stimulates the lymphatic system to help reduce inflammation, which in turn smoothes fine lines and wrinkles."

Well, you can't argue with that.

Does it leave circular bruises?

Apparently not. It's a lot more gentle on the face, so the aftereffects aren't as bad.

Does it hurt?

This is the best part. "It kind of feels like a cat licking you," Nurse Jamie says.

Is it expensive?

Oh, wait. Maybe this is the best part. If you don't have the cash to go to a certified skin expert in LA, you can literally do it at home. A facial cupping kit will only set you back between $20 and $40. Here's one you can buy now.

So, what do you think? Go on, go cup yourself.
