News Bite: Ivanka Trump's Child Care Plan Puts Pressure On Her Father

Ivanka Trump has met with members of the House and the Senate to discuss her proposal for a $500 billion dollar child care plan.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump announced he would propose a massive tax overhaul. Ivanka Trump is working to ensure that it does not pass without her plan included. However, it's price tag may make it difficult for her to find support for it.

Alan Cole, an economist with the Tax Foundation, tells Bloomberg:

"The child care proposal is generous and broad; almost everyone with young children will get some benefit from it. However, the largest benefits will go to relatively affluent dual-income families using paid child care."

The proposal further signifies Ivanka Trump's influential role in her father's administration.

In other Washington news, Donald Trump has moved to limit federal protections for transgender students that allow them to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity.

The decision overruled his own education secretary, Betsy DeVos, and has further drawn the line of contention between liberals and conservatives.

While DeVos signed off on the decision, she released a statement noting that it's a “moral obligation” for every school in America to protect all students from discrimination.

Currently, individual schools are free to allow transgender students use the bathrooms of their choice. In the meantime, the Trump decision will not take immediate effect due to a federal court injunction barring enforcement of the original Obama order.
